In a world where finding direction can often feel elusive, Amsterdam-based brand Lack of Guidance has consistently carved out its own path—redefining the intersection of sport and culture since 2016. As a brand rooted in football-inspired design, it’s no stranger to reinterpreting classic athletic aesthetics through a fresh lens.
This January, Lack of Guidance chose to kick off the year on a high note, unveiling a collaboration that feels as unexpected as it is symbiotic. Partnering with Japanese footwear powerhouse ASICS, they present a bold take on the GEL-QUANTUM™ 360 VIII—a shoe inspired by the legendary 1998 Japan goalkeeper jersey.
The design riffs on a bold black-and-orange palette, punctuated by silver accents and fiery mesh overlays—a nod to the untamed energy of the 1998 World Cup kit. Bridging nostalgic design with modern performance, it captures the essence of reimagining iconic sportswear for today.

Set to drop on January 31st exclusively via Lack of Guidance’s online store and their Amsterdam flagship, this shoe marks a milestone as the brand’s debut footwear release. The collaboration not only showcases Lack of Guidance’s ability to elevate football heritage but also reflects their founders’ personal passion for ASICS.
As co-founder Akaar Amin puts it: ‘Those who know me well are aware of my love for ASICS, so it’s a true honor to design my first pair of shoes with them.’
Following the exclusive launch, the GEL-QUANTUM™ 360 VIII will hit select retailers worldwide on February 7th.
Whether you’re a football fan, a design aficionado, or someone seeking a way to step boldly into the new year, this collaboration is one you won’t want to miss.
