Amsterdam Dance Event is hardly synonymous with sitting still, but this year, Minimal Collective is inviting us to do precisely that. From Oct. 22 to 24, the Amsterdam collective returns to Oude Kerk with the second edition of Post-Space, a listening series exploring the relationship between sound, memory and the spaces we inhabit. Presented in collaboration with Oude Kerk and ADE Arts & Culture, the program takes the church’s centuries of history, architecture and remarkable acoustics as its starting point.
At the center of this year’s edition is Hieropixel, a new audiovisual installation by Tharim Cornelisse that draws on material from Oude Kerk itself. Throughout the event, the work will accompany the evening performances in an adapted form, allowing the building to become part of the experience rather than simply its setting.

On Friday 23rd, Amsterdam-based lazergazer opens the evening with Berlin-based Pavel Milyakov and Finnish artist Tapio Viitasaari performing Melancholia by Yana Pavlova. On Friday 23rd, Amsterdam-based lazergazer opens the evening with Berlin-based Pavel Milyakov and Finnish artist Tapio Viitasaari performing Melancholia by Yana Pavlova (live). Mexican-Norwegian artist Carmen Villain presents her latest album, Memoria, live, before emerging local artists Lulá Luna & Nessim close the night with a DJ set.

Listening is as much a physical experience as an auditory one, and Minimal Collective has considered both. A custom sound system by Kantarion Sound will respond to the church’s distinctive acoustics, while seating by côte&ciel offers visitors an opportunity to settle in and experience the music without the usual demands of a dance floor.

On Saturday, 24th, from 20:30-02:00 you can explore the combination of organ sounds with electronics by Dutch artist Son Of Chi and Korean artist Okgwa. Chinese-born, Berlin-based artist Temple Rat will continue with her own take of Whispers of Water and Spring.
After that, Dutch trio Tharim Cornelisse, Floid & W92 will debut Nooga, their debut hybrid-live audiovisual show that incorporates live footage from the church. Denmark-based Natal Zaks will close the night with an ambient set with unreleased materials, called Picture.
Across two nights, Post-Space offers a rather different approach to ADE. One that asks us to pay attention not only to what we’re hearing, but to where we’re hearing it, and how a space can shape the experience of sound.
