We are mid-May and there is no longer any excuse. The sun is doing its thing, the terraces are full by noon, and the city has collectively remembered that being outside is actually quite good. People are reading books in parks they have never been to before, cycling to destinations they could have easily walked to, and ordering things at bars with ice in them. Spring has properly landed and Amsterdam is behaving accordingly.
It has been a big couple of weeks. Kingsday came and went, Lentekabinet is on the horizon, and somewhere in between all of that most of us have been trying to remember what a normal Thursday feels like. May has this energy where the social calendar fills up faster than you can track it and suddenly it is June and you cannot account for the last thirty days.
Which is exactly why it helps to be intentional about the weekend. Not every weekend needs to be an event. Some of them just need to be good. A bit of culture, a bit of food, a walk that goes longer than planned, maybe a party if the body is willing and the spirit is strong.
This weekend delivers on all of that. There is cultural programming worth leaving the house for, good food as always, some shopping for those in the mood, and a few parties for anyone who has sufficiently recovered from the last few weeks and is ready to return to the dancefloor. There is also more than enough to do if you want to keep things slow and easy.
