Dear Aa readers,
In this edition, I’m excited to take you through Bangkok, the city that has shaped me and the place I proudly call home. Born and raised in Thailand, I’ve always seen Bangkok from a unique perspective—both as a local and someone still discovering it. For many, Bangkok is a gateway to Thailand, but what most people don’t realize is that its full name is one of the longest in the world: Krung Thep Maha Nakhon Amon Rattanakosin Mahinthara Yuthaya Mahadilok Phop Noppharat Ratchathani Burirom Udomratchaniwet Mahasathan Amon Piman Awatan Sathit Sakkathattiya Witsanukam Prasit. Understandably, we call it Krung Thep or, more simply, Bangkok.
From its vibrant street food stalls to its peaceful temples, this city is full of surprises. There’s a rhythm to Bangkok that’s chaotic yet captivating, whether it’s the hum of motorcycles weaving through traffic or the warm bowl of noodles handed to you by a street vendor. The city blends tradition with modernity, and every corner has a new story to tell. One thing I can say for sure: Bangkok is a true foodie’s paradise, with a food scene that ranges from late-night pad kra pao in Sukhumvit to extravagant ramen bowls at local gems, and steaming noodles on every corner. When the sun sets, the city shifts into its lively nightlife scene, with rooftop bars, hidden gems, and places to unwind.
In this guide, I’ll take you through my favorite spots from Sukhumvit to Old Town Bangkok, places that define the city for me. These aren’t just about the food; they’re about the experiences and connections you make along the way.
So, hang on tight, and have a safe ride through my city. I hope you have as much fun as I do!
Till next time xx,
Lisa
P.S. Huge thanks to my bkk friends for helping me discover these places. I couldn’t have done it without you!
P.P.S. You can save the google maps list of the guide here.

Eat
Prachak duck
In Charoen Krung, Prachak is a must-try. Serving roasted duck or pork with egg noodles since 1909, the duck is tender, the pork crispy, and their egg noodles are to die for. The meal will only set you back 100 baht ($2). A cheap, splendid food experience! Does it get any better?

This is me and my boyfriend’s favorite spot for authentic Okinawan vibes and cuisine. The pork belly and Okinawa soba are a must-try, and the cozy vibe makes it the perfect place for a delicious meal that won’t break the bank.
Saew Noodle
Make sure to go to the one in Sukhumvit 49. Be ready to queue tho! Try their signature yen-ta-fo(Thai pink noodle soup) and minced pork soup with homemade fish and tofu balls. The rich flavors, tender meat, and crispy pork lard make it worth the wait.

Larder has the best bread you’ll ever come across in Sukhumvit! Their brunch menu is amazing, and I highly recommend the tuna sandwich. They even make their own cold cuts and charcuterie in-house.

If you’re looking for authentic ramen in Bangkok, No Name Noodle is the place to go. It ticks all the boxes! Kudos to the chef for putting so much effort into each and every bowl of ramen. Make sure to make a reservation before you go. It’s a bit pricier than your usual ramen in Bangkok, but you’ll understand why once you try it.

For bomb paellas and sangrias, El Willy is THE spot in Bangkok. The flavors are on point, a must-visit for any tapas lover.
Mae Varee
Expect a bit of a wait in line, but don’t let that discourage you. It’s totally worth it. They only offer takeaway, but once you taste that sweet, creamy mango sticky rice, you’ll understand why it’s so popular.
Wallflowers upstairs
I stumbled upon this hidden gem in Chinatown – it’s a cafe by day and a bar by night. The vibe is amazing, with live music every Saturday and vinyls playing throughout.
