Spring’s finally here. The sun actually warms your skin again, terraces are buzzing, and Amsterdam feels like it’s waking up from a long, overstimulated nap. And just like that, Aa Magazine returns IRL with our first gathering of the year, reuniting with Sebonsa, this time joined by Studio Wieman, for a weekend fully dedicated to our trifecta of favorite things: food, wine, and music.
Introducing Het Hapjesfestijn, two days of eating, drinking, dancing, and soaking up great energy. Mark your calendar for this weekend, May 10 and 11, at Studio Wieman, a spot that’s practically become a second home for Amsterdam’s creative scene. And yes, we’ve curated the Saturday night afterparty lineup, so trust us, you’ll want to stick around.
By day, wander through food stalls featuring some of Amsterdam’s best-loved culinary talents and exciting newcomers. Consider this your chance to finally try everything you’ve been saving in your notes app:
KID, Omoka, Epicerie Bouf, Mama Duli, Monika Blažević and Raquel Palla Lorden, Oesterfestijn, Saigon Kiss, May Dumplings, Jollof Club, Ralli Cooks, Daya’s Doughnouts, and expertly brewed coffee from ROA Koffie.
Need a pause? Grab a glass of natural wine and head into a laid-back Wine & Dine workshop led by Flessie Amsterdam, where you’ll design your own custom wine label while sipping Sebonsa wines.
As the sun goes down, the energy turns up. Saturday night, Aa presents an unmissable lineup featuring some of our absolute favorites:
Misa is an Amsterdam-based DJ whose sound is shaped by her NYC upbringing and Latin American roots. Her sets blend juke, jersey club, bouncy bass lines, and Latin club rhythms, always with an electronic overtone and an emphasis on women’s voices.
Karmel is an Amsterdam-based DJ and artist whose taste is eclectic in every sense. Currently, Karmel hosts ‘Sounds of Freedom’ on Echobox Radio, sharing diverse tracks that evoke liberation. Her sets reflect this same spirit, seamlessly blending genres from jazz and psychedelic Arabic to punk, aiming to take listeners on unexpected journeys.
Eauxmar transmits from beneath, mixing dustbitten breakbeats and low-end riddims stitched with esoteric codes. Expect cracked software, Maghrebi funk ghosts, broken drum machines, anti-drops, donk mutations, trance flashbacks, zero-fidelity tekstep, forbidden rai edits, and ritual loops crafted for abandoned souks and pirate towers—dismantled, reassembled, and forgotten again.
Michael Ekow and May (live) deliver a genre-defying, emotionally charged performance. Ekow blends R&B, indie, and alternative hip-hop with sharp lyrics, Afrofuturistic flair, and infectious stage energy. Joined by guitarist and producer May, their live shows combine bouncing beats, raw emotion, and bold charisma that keep crowds moving. Drawing inspiration from Kendrick Lamar, Frank Ocean, and Florence and the Machine, Ekow channels deep feelings into every track.
Throughout the weekend, expect perfect musical vibes with DJ sets from Background Radio on Saturday daytime, Aa Magazine’s own crew on Saturday night, and Radio Tempo Não Pára providing Sunday’s soundtrack.
Each ticket includes a custom Hapjesfestijn wine glass, because every memorable moment deserves a keepsake.
