Dear Aa readers, as the one thing we as a team unanimously love – matcha – we thought that we would give you a run-down of our favourite spots in the city. This cherry-picked list will not only lead you to the best matcha in Amsterdam, but will also provide you with our personal recommendations and how much you will pay for it. We hope to help out some of our fellow matcha lovers and, perhaps, even sway a few sceptics.
While these already stand as our top-notch recommendations, we believe it is only fair to offer an overall rating (out of 5 🍵🍵🍵🍵🍵) based on factors such as colour, bitterness and flavour. This will be followed by our personal suggestions and pairings, as well as a breakdown of their prices for an iced matcha with oat milk.
For the full review head over to our guide section and start planning your next matcha date.

Taigu
At the very top of our list we have Taigu. It has become the ultimate destination for matcha enthusiasts in town. Known for being one of the few spots using authentic Japanese matcha powder, Taigu uses premium Uji tea. They have a couple locations around the city, but our favourite remains the De Pijp one with its minimalist Japanese cafe aesthetic. While the matcha at Taigu might be on the pricier side, it is 100% worth it and each sip will bring you one step closer to matcha heaven. To sweeten up your matcha experience, we recommend adding the strawberry puree or/ and the shiratama mochi for an additional 1 euro per add- on.

Oficina
Oficina is known for its focus on matcha and loose-leaf teas, so we obviously could not skip this spot. With gorgeous interiors and yummy matcha, we are obsessed. Oficina is the perfect spot for a solo matcha date where you can just sit in the serene environment and daydream. For the ultimate indulgence, order the matcha white chocolate cookie with your matcha. Your taste buds will thank you later.

AO Bar
This third spot is an ode to our first ever coffee spot guide. AO is another Japanese- style cafe, a beautiful space that (to quote us) feels like the perfect mixture of Studio Ghibli meets Scandi Chic. We recommend their pairing of your matcha latte to their matcha marble cake or crepe cake for a full-immersive matcha experience. Or, if you are feeling fun and flirty; try their matcha margarita.

Venu
Whether you want to have a quick pick me up matcha or enjoy it while having an intense study session in their modern co-working space, Venu offers it all. If you do not feel like studying or typing away, then you can just enjoy your matcha in their small sitting area in the front or on the bench outside their space – the perfect spot for people watching on the Haarlemmerdijk. If you want a unique twist to your usual matcha order, we recommend ordering the watermelon matcha or adding some pistachio syrup to it.

Saint-Jean
By now you guys already know that we love Saint-Jean, so it is only fair that we include it in this guide. The plant- based bakery in the heart of Jordaan does not only offer delicious pastries but has good matcha too. Pair their matcha with one of their pastries and while they have many tempting options, our recommendation is the pistachio cruffin. Overall the best treat after your Saturday morning Noordermarkt endeavours.
Tip: If you go early you will be able to avoid the queue and can sit down in their cosy bakery. On weekends you’re in for an extra treat as you can grab everything to go and enjoy Noordermarkt.
