Audio Archives,is a new project by Carhartt WIP Radio that documents more than 15 years of independent platforms for artists across 17 global radio stations. It launched on 26 February in Berlin at NBB Gallery and between March and April you can listen here to live broadcasts from Berlin, London, Tokyo, Rotterdam, Bristol. Some of the independent radios that are included are: Kiosk, NTS, Operator, Alhara, Refuge Worldwide.
Launched in 2008, Carhartt WIP Radio gave the floor to artists to have an hour of playing their own music, complemented by an interview. After that there was a transition from a traditional FM structure – one radio, one hour, one artist, to a digital curated platform from diverse scenes. Carhartt WIP Radio is giving highlights to radio stations that are outside of the corporate framework.

Audio Archives is what formalises the legacy by amplifying voices like Helena Hauff Femi Adeyemi,Carl Creig. This project encompasses three distinct parts of the Audio Archives project – a printed publication, a capsule publication, and a program of live broadcasts and events. The publication is the printed archive and the cultural statement, while the capsule is the wearable extension.
The Printed Publication
The 1,200 pages of the archive feature a selection of posters and artworks, interviews that reflect the journey of creating an independent radio. Accompanying this, there is a 7-inch Flexi-disk with soundbites from the participating stations.
The Capsule
The capsule is envisioned in two-graphic print long sleeves, a hooded sweatshirt, a record bag and a limited edition of Teenage Engineering OB-4 Magic Radio.
