Twenty recent graduates take over a car park beneath Museumplein

One night, twenty artists, and a curatorial board that includes Raquel van Haver and the director of AMO. SIGNAL ‘26 opens today

There is a particular kind of limbo that follows graduation. The years of development are done, the degree show is over, and suddenly the academic infrastructure that held everything together is gone, right at the moment when networks and first commissions matter most. SIGNAL ‘26 was built exactly to bridge that gap.

On Friday 16 October, the underground car park beneath Q-Park Museumplein transforms into a three-hour exhibition space, hosting twenty recent graduates of Dutch art and design academies from 18:00 to 21:00. The work spans visual art, fashion, textiles, jewellery, painting, graphic design, sculpture, photography, film and digital art, presented directly to curators, museum directors, gallerists, collectors, creative directors, commissioners, editors and press. The aim is practical and straightforward: to generate real connections, commissions, and collaborations.

The location is most intentional. Above ground, Museumplein is home to some of the Netherlands’ most established cultural institutions. Below it, for one evening, the concrete architecture of an active car park becomes a platform for the generation still making its way in. Established cultural history above, new voices below.

The twenty participating artists were selected by a nine-member curatorial board that scouted graduation shows across the Netherlands. The board includes artist Raquel van Haver, fashion designer Tess van Zalinge, Samir Bantal of AMO and OMA, Emma Waslander of the Amsterdam Museum, artist and photographer Fidelio Faustino, and Merel van Helsdingen of NXT Museum, among others. Selection was based on artistic urgency, the ability to reflect the current zeitgeist, and the breadth of disciplines represented.

Work spans visual art, fashion, textiles, jewellery, painting, graphic design, sculpture, photography, film and digital art. After the evening, a physical art newspaper developed with ANDSTAAT will keep each participant visible beyond the one night.

SIGNAL ‘26 takes place Friday 16 October, 18:00 to 21:00, at Q-Park Museumplein, level -2, Van Baerlestraat 33, Amsterdam. Tickets are €2.50, available here
