The heatwave is here and, frankly, we are loving every second of it. Sure, Amsterdam’s UV index is currently operating with malicious intent and half the city will be mistaking a sunburn for a tan by Monday, but these are sacrifices people seem willing to make.
The football World Cup is underway, terraces are overflowing, everybody suddenly looks suspiciously attractive, and for a brief moment life feels remarkably good. While we may not be able to explain the offside rule, we do know how to be on site. And this weekend, there are plenty of places worth showing up to.
With temperatures soaring and collective productivity at an all-time low, the city has fully surrendered to summer. Parks have become living rooms, canal edges have become beaches, and every invitation feels impossible to refuse. Somewhere between an after-work drink, a quick swim, and a rooftop gathering, entire weekends are disappearing.
Thankfully, Amsterdam’s social calendar is matching the energy. There are so many reasons to leave the house that cancelling plans might actually require more effort than attending them.
So drink some water. Wear sunscreen. Text your friends back. And if you insist on chasing the sun all weekend, at least make it count.
Enjoy.
