Friendbook 12: Miles Greenberg

In our 12th Friendbook feature, we’re thrilled to showcase Miles Greenberg, a New York-based performance artist and sculptor.

Amid the excitement of his debut solo exhibition at @burostedelijk‘s 23rd Manifestation: TRUTH, Miles Greenberg graciously shared insights with us.

At the age of 26, Miles has collaborated with and gleaned insights from some of the foremost performance artists of our era, including Édouard Lock, Robert Wilson, and Marina Abramović. Garnering international acclaim, he has exhibited his work at prestigious institutions such as the Louvre, the Royal Theatre Carré, Galleria Continua, The New Museum, and many others.

His creations, known for expansive and sensorially immersive environments tailored to specific locations, delve into the dynamic relationship between the physical body and its surroundings. These installations come to life through daring performances, treating the body as a sculptural medium. Real-time documentation of these performances forms the foundation for subsequent video works and sculptures. Greenberg’s artistic realm, grounded in a methodical and ritualistic approach, employs deliberate pacing and gradual decay of form to heighten audience sensitivities.

Exclusively presented in Buro Stedelijk’s Central Space, three video projections capturing Miles’s remarkable 8-hour performance, TRUTH, held in May 2023 in New York City, create an immersive installation featuring a large body of water. This setup invites spectators to engage with the environment, blurring the lines between witnessing and participating in the performance.
