There are many reasons to go to a festival. The music, obviously. Seeing friends. Losing friends. Finding them again six hours later. And, whether we like to admit it or not, seeing what everyone decided to wear.

This year, Dekmantel came with a rare meteorological blessing: sun. Lots of it. No emergency ponchos, no strategic buienradar checks, no attempting to make a waterproof shell work with the outfit. Instead, Amsterdamse Bos found itself somewhere in the middle of a very welcome heatwave, and festival dressing followed suit.

 Shorts, flowy skirts, tiny tops, excellent sunglasses, sensible shoes, questionable shoes, plenty of skin and just enough fabric to make it through a full day of dancing. Some dressed for function, some for fashion, and the best looks landed somewhere in between.

Because festival style has its own set of rules. Whatever leaves the house in the morning needs to survive heat, dust, grass, dancing, several thousand steps and whatever else the day decides to throw at it. By sunset, the outfit has usually taken on a life of its own.

We went into the field to see what Amsterdam wore to Dekmantel.
