If last weekend was hot, consider this an inferno.
Temperatures are flirting with 40 degrees in June, the city’s tree are working overtime, and if anyone is still questioning climate change, we would gently like to direct their attention to the weather app.
Despite Amsterdam’s UV index continuing its personal vendetta against us, the city it being the best it can. Terraces offering shade and refreshments, waterside canals have become living rooms, and rumour has it that some of us are putting their pyjamas in the freezer.
As always, a reminder that this kind of heat isn’t experienced equally. If you’re heading out this weekend, keep an eye on the people around you too. Check in on your older neighbours, make sure your friends are drinking enough water, think about children, pets, and people without access to shelter or cool spaces.
Fortunately, Amsterdam’s social calendar is matching the weather forecast. The weekend is looking HOT. Parties, concerts, exhibition openings, the World Cup. Must we say more?
So wear sunscreen. Refill your bottle. Jump into the nearest body of water if it’s safe to do so. Seek out the shade every now and then. And if you’re going to spend the entire weekend chasing the sun, at least make sure to look after yourself and the people around you while you’re at it.
We’ve rounded up everything worth getting up.
Enjoy.
